Media interest in Pope Benedict's visit to the United States gave Ambassador Glendon a rare opportunity to talk with a global audience about the U.S.-Holy See diplomatic relationship – founded on a common commitment to human dignity. She used a series of TV, newspaper and radio interviews to provide an informed and thoughtful perspective to the Papal visit, while underscoring our shared vision of the centrality of human rights and religious freedom.
In an interview with Shepard Smith of FOX News, Ambassador Glendon outlined the impact and importance of the Pope’s historic meeting with President Bush. She also gave a lengthy interview to Michele Ghoudrain of Al-Hurra, an Arabic-language American satellite TV channel, financed by Congress, and broadcast in 22 countries across the Middle East, which allowed her to explain for audiences in the Arab world U.S. efforts towards peace in the Middle East.
Ambassador Glendon also discussed Pope Benedict’s remarks at the White House – in which he praised the generosity of the American people – and those he would make to a global audience at the United Nations, with Raymond Arroyo, News Director of EWTN, a Catholic cable television network with a global audience of tens of millions. Ambassador Glendon also gave interviews to CNN, CNN International, Relevant Radio, the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, New York Times, Washington Post, and Catholic News Service.
