The 'Scavi'
The “Scavi” are the excavations of the underground necropolis under St. Peter’s Basilica. You must request a reservation in advance to see the Scavi. You may do this by sending a fax to the Excavation Office at +(39) 06.6987.3017, an e-mail to scavi@fsp.va, or by phone at +(39)06.6988.5318. Tickets are 12 euros per person and include a guided tour. As this is a very popular site and the Vatican only allows a limited number of people; please make your reservations as far in advance as possible to ensure that you get a tour. Visitors must be over the age of 15. Groups of 12 will be formed according to languages spoken.
Ticket Office hours: Mon-Fri 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Sat. 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Closed Sundays and Vatican holidays
The last tour begins at 3:30 p.m. (4:15 p.m. from April - Sep.). The tour lasts about 1 1/2 hours.
