Ambassador Rooney greeted Cardinal Tarciso Bertone, the Vatican’s new Secretary of State, on September 29th at the Apostolic Palace. Cardinal Bertone replaces Cardinal Sodano, who recently retired after 16 years of service as the Vatican’s Secretary of State. Cardinal Bertone was the Archbishop of Genoa prior to his selection by Pope Benedict XVI.
