Ambassador Diaz Presents Credentials to Pope Benedict XVI
The U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See, Miguel H. Díaz, presented his letter of credentials from President Barack Obama to Pope Benedict XVI on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo.
Accompanying Ambassador Diaz for this memorable occasion were his wife, his four children, his father, other family members from the United States, and members of the diplomatic staff from the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Diaz praised the Holy Father’s numerous humanitarian efforts, including promotion of interreligious dialogue for the sake of peace, environmental protection, and ensuring food security for the most vulnerable populations. Ambassador Diaz affirmed his intention to serve as a bridge-builder between the United States and the Holy See, and how honored he is to serve as a representative of President Obama and the great people of the United States of America.
